Getting here
There’s no airport in town and no railway either — but Pachmarhi is comfortably within reach of three big cities. The last leg is always by road, and that part is part of the trip.
Bhopal — 230 km (5 hrs). Direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Indore, Raipur, Hyderabad.
Jabalpur — 260 km (5–6 hrs). Direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Indore.
Nagpur — 285 km (6 hrs). Best international connectivity of the three.
Pipariya (PPI) — 50 km / 1 hr 30 min. The nearest railway station, with direct trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Varanasi, Howrah, Agra, Gwalior, Ahmedabad and Nagpur.
Backup option: Itarsi Junction — 150 km. A major junction; useful if you can’t find a train directly to Pipariya.
Roads are well-maintained — the cantonment keeps them that way. Drivable from:
Bhopal 230 km · Jabalpur 260 km · Nagpur 285 km · Indore 415 km · Chhindwara 130 km. Shared taxis and buses from Pipariya run all day.
Pipariya railway station is the standard arrival point and the last 50 km is the most beautiful stretch of the journey — a winding climb through sal forest into the cantonment.
Options from Pipariya:
Pachmarhi is open all year, but the sweet spot is October to March. Climate then is crisp, the forest still green from monsoon, and every viewpoint is at its best. April–June are warm but never as hot as the plains. The monsoon (July–September) is dramatic — full waterfalls, lush trails — but a few roads can get slippery; plan a flexible schedule.
From Bhopal: NH 46 east via Obaidullaganj and Hoshangabad / Narmadapuram, then towards Pipariya, then up the cantonment road. ~5 hours.
From Jabalpur: NH 30 west via Narsinghpur and Gadarwara, then south at Pipariya. ~5–6 hours.
From Nagpur: NH 44 north via Chhindwara and Tamia, dropping into the valley from the south. The Tamia road is the prettiest approach — allow extra time for stops.
Most of the town is walkable. For the surrounding sights (Dhoopgarh, Bee Fall, Jata Shankar, Pandava Caves) a gypsy / jeep is the standard option — vehicles cluster near the bus stand and the main market and most rates are fixed by the cantonment.
We arrange pickups from Pipariya, Bhopal and Jabalpur, plus jeeps for the local sights. Tell us your route.
