Priyadarshini Point (Forsyth Point)

Priyadarshini Point is named after Smt. Indira Gandhi, the first woman Prime Minister of India — "Priyadarshini" being one of her epithets. It is also historically known as Forsyth Point, for this is the very spot where Captain James Forsyth first set eyes on the beauty of Pachmarhi in 1857 and was enchanted by what he saw.

This viewpoint gives a breath-taking scenic view of Pachmarhi and the surrounding Satpura Range. The panorama from this hilltop is considered one of the finest in all of Madhya Pradesh — on a clear day, the view extends for miles across the green valleys and rolling hills.

The historical significance of Priyadarshini Point cannot be overstated. It was from this very vantage point that the British developed their vision for Pachmarhi as a hill resort. Their influence is embodied in the churches, colonial architecture, and meticulously planned cantonment that still characterise the town today.

The point is accessible via a short trek through forested terrain, making the journey as enjoyable as the destination. Sunset views from Priyadarshini Point are particularly spectacular, with the town of Pachmarhi glittering below.
